The Friends of Hanham Woods Academy are a group of parents/carers who give up some of their time to raise money for the Academy by fundraising.  Last year we helped fund the Academy mini bus and this year we have raised money for a defibrillator.  We have also helped start up and raise money for the Academy Library along with the Sensory Garden, which is ongoing and will be a great project for Students and Staff to be involved in.  We have also helped fund support courses for students.

We normally hold an informal meeting at the Academy once a month in the evening, where we discuss events that are up coming and how we can best raise money.

The events we have support during the past year are:  Hanham Common Fayre (this year we are selling raffle tickets with a chance to win a Wheelbarrow full of “Garden Party” themed goodies); Festival of Sport (we sell ice-creams, drinks and sweets to students throughout the day); Hanham High Street Christmas Fayre (we sell products we have made e.g. Reindeer hot chocolate, Candy cane Reindeer, Snowman poo to name a few); Tuck Shop (on the last day of term, we open a Tuck Shop during break time); Leavers’ Hoodies for Year 11 students leaving the Academy (there are printed with the names of all the students on them in the Year Group and make lovely keepsakes for the students); Quiz Nights, which are great nights all round; and  Open Evening Refreshments at any other open evenings the Academy may have.

As you can see, we are very busy, but it is totally worthwhile!

If you think you have what it takes to become one of the Friends of Hanham Woods Academy, then please drop me, Lynn Dare, an email at or come along to the next meeting.

We hope to be fundraising with you soon.
